Elaine enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing (she made all the clothes for her children when they were growing up), drawing, writing letters, and was working on a book of her life, although it never came to fruition. Elaine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law and made sure her children had what they needed growing up. She was also a 4-H Club and Girl Scout Leader. During this time, they developed their business, Hawks Farm & Garden Center in North Pole, Alaska.Įlaine was active in the North Pole High School Booster Club and North Pole Chamber of Commerce. They also had a vegetable stand on South Cushman in Fairbanks that was opened and run everyday by her family. She changed direction and started to grow row crops, selling to stores and from the farm. During this time, Elaine helped establish the Farmers Market in Fairbanks, Alaska. Elaine raised cows, chickens, pigs, and geese, but her children made pets out of them. To meet the requirements of the homestead, they had to clear and till the land and grow crops. In 1958, they moved to Alaska to homestead and raise their family. Hawks on June 17, 1951, in Jackson County, Minnesota and they moved to Fresno, California in 1952. Elaine was born in Springfield Township, Minnesota on Novemthe daughter of Lester and Della Norgrant.Įlaine married Charles R. She was a member of the College Avenue Church of Christ and attended services until she was no longer able. ![]() Elaine Joy Hawks, age 90, went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2022, at Chautauqua Springs Health Center in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.
